Dr. Alexis Anvekar was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated with honors from UC San Diego, obtaining degrees in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, with a minor in Psychology. She did not have support to attend college due to her gender, so she financed 100% of her education by working full time throughout college and by receiving full tuition leadership scholarships. After graduating from college, she attended Keck School of Medicine at USC and remained active in leadership roles. Some roles included Student Body President, Co-Editor in Chief of the newspaper, Co-Founder of Student Organization for the Medical Awareness of AIDS, Delegate for American Medical Association (AMA) and American Medical Women's Association (AMWA). She received a national leadership award with AMWA given to the most promising female physician-in-training in the country. As a senior at the medical school, she was invited along with the top 0.01% of graduating seniors to complete a coveted leadership fellowship called the USC Presidential Fellowship ran by USC's Marshall School of Business. She was also selected into USC's highest secret honor society. After graduating from medical school, she chose to complete her Residency at the rigorous LAC+USC Internal Medicine Residency Program where she continued her role as a leader. She served as Housestaff President, Southern California Vice President for the Committee of Interns and Residents, and National Vice President for the Committee of Interns and Residents. In this role, she met regularly with politicians in Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Washington, D.C. After completing her residency in Internal Medicine, she was honored to serve an additional year as Chief Medical Resident.
In 2001, Dr Anvekar helped develop what may be California's first Concierge Medicine practice while working in a celebrity practice in Beverly Hills. The program was designed to tailor to the needs of celebrities. She left the practice to be nearer to her San Marino home and is now happily practicing Concierge Medicine in Pasadena, California. In her current practice, every patient is treated like a celebrity when it comes to his or her healthcare. She married her med school sweetheart, Madhu, and they have three wonderful children together. She has been in her current solo private practice since 2004. Awards include Top Docs of San Gabriel Valley (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012), Most Compassionate Doctor Award given to top 3% nationwide physicians (2010, 2011), Patient's Choice Award given to top 6% nationwide physicians (2010, 2011), and Who's Who Among Women Entrepreneurs.
Being active in her community and fostering a love for charity in her children is a priority to Dr. Anvekar. She Co-Founded a group called "Big Hearts, Small Hands." This is a group of amazing families who introduce their children to charity by purchasing, cooking and serving meals to the 50+ homeless men, women and children family residents of the Union Station Homeless Services Family Center. Dr. Anvekar cooks the main course for this dinner every month. The children serve the food to the homeless families at this facility in Pasadena, and they also fund-raise throughout the year to purchase needed equipment in the kitchen. In an effort to do her part in furthering science education, she Founded Wild 4 Science in 2009, an after school enrichment program aimed at fostering a lifelong love for science in children. This program runs year-round in local elementary schools. She has worked with leaders in the field to develop a hands-on, creative curriculum that incorporates literature, art, social science, history and cooking into the fun science lessons. Dr. Anvekar believes that by introducing children to the fun and creativity in science at an early age, they are more likely to succeed in science in the future. Her hobbies include photography, cooking, travelling, being outdoors, and spending lots of laughs with family and friends.
